Sam Schwartz Intranet
I was hired as a consultant by Sam Schwartz—an engineering, planning, and consulting firm—to create and maintain a functional intranet. Using Microsoft SharePoint, this intranet serves as an informational hub, co-working space, and a database of resources for all staff.
In addition to creating a home page, sites (sometimes with their own sub-sites) were created for individual corporate departments. SharePoint's Communications Sites and Team Sites were used in conjunction to create a secure and functional place in the cloud for all staff to access relevant information and tools. The intent is to have an intranet that promotes clarity, ease of access, and co-working.
The Home Page welcomes staff to the intranet and serves as a hub for all sites and is a landing page for staff to quickly access information including calendars, recent files, saved articles, training, recorded staff meetings, and more.
Individual sites were given to each of the corporate departments to allow for the posting of news, as well as provide access to apps and databases/libraries of resources. Some of the corporate offices only required small Communications Sites with one page, while others required a combination of Communications and Team Sites with multiple pages. User Experience Design was needed in order to allow for logical and succinct navigation and site map.
Additional pages, such as an Offices page and a Groups page, were required to display information and link out to other internal and external areas.
